Founder & CEO, Necessary Care Inc.
I’m Tamika Coffey, a lifelong resident of Washington, DC, and I am dedicated to the mission of Necessary Care, Inc. (NCI), a non-profit organization I have been involved with since its founding in 2017. NCI is committed to providing quality personal development and coaching to youth ages 10-24, helping empower them to unlock their full potential.
At NCI, we emphasize the importance of mentorship, creating a supportive sisterhood of mentors who lead, encourage, and set positive examples for our program participants. By focusing on emotional intelligence and family engagement, we strive to equip young people with the skills needed to navigate life’s challenges and strengthen their connections with their families.
With over 23 years of experience in community service, I have passionately worked to strengthen families and advocate for youth. My experience as a foster parent for over 20 years has deepened my commitment to ensuring that every child has access to a safe, nurturing environment and the guidance they need to thrive.
The primary goal of Necessary Care is to provide temporary housing for homeless youth, those in foster care, or individuals seeking structured placements. Alongside this, we offer comprehensive developmental services and compassionate care. As we look to the future, our objective for 2024-2025 is to secure sufficient funding to open our first home in the DMV area, a vital step in expanding our reach and impact.
Together, we can create a brighter future for the young people in our community, fostering individual growth, stronger family connections, and enhanced engagement.
